When do I need a dental crown instead of a dental filling?

What is the difference between a dental filling and a dental crown and when is a dental crown necessary?

Dental fillings fill-in holes and dental crowns make things stronger. We often get asked when should I get a cavity filling, and or do I need a dental crown instead?

It really depends how severe the damage to the tooth has undergone. If the tooth damage is more than half the tooth then we usually prescribe a dental crown because we need to make sure that the dental structure integrity is stronger. If the damage is left than half then a cavity filling is recommended because we have to excavate the decay and make sure that the patch will hold. We also look at the functionality of the tooth, and the location of the potential dental compromise . Depending upon the location of the decay whether it is on the sides and not the center of the tooth we may only recommend a dental cavity filling, but regardless, at Seaglass Dental Care we offer free dental consultations and oral exams, and can recommend exactly what we needs to happen to make sure you have the smile that is no only functional, but strong and healthy. If a dental crown is what is recommended, then at Seaglass Dental care we are a dentist office in North Palm Beach FL that offers dental crowns on the same day because we have the technology to mill them right within the office. This allows us the opporuntity to do things quickly and efficiently, and you the opportunity to only have to see us once.
