Patients often wonder what their options at home if they get a dental/tooth abscess. A tooth abscess forms from an infected tooth. Most cavities do not hurt unless the cavity reaches the space within the tooth, called the pulp . When the cavity reaches this space where the nerve resides, there is a pocket of pus that will then accumulate.
The bacterial infection will then breaks down the tissue. The resulting build-up of pus is usually very painful as it creates pressure.
