Dental fillings are made up of different kind of material depending on their usage. You can classify dental fillings material into temporary, semi permanent and permanent. In temporary you have something called Zinc oxide powder and eugenol which is a powder containing zinc oxide, Barium sulphate which has to be just placed in the cavity, these are temporary cements. Semi permanent restoration Especially for children the most popular cement in this is a glass ionomer cement it consists of powder as well as liquid. The powder form is nothing but Alumina, silica and calcium fhloride, the liquid contains polyacrylic acid with some minute traces of other Organics acids. Thirdly there are permanent cements or dental fillings which are mainly broadly classified into two, one is an amalgam which is silver amalgam filling which consist of a liquid Mercury forms and powder silver pin powder which is mixed, parachuted and placed into the cavity. The most popular cement on the dental filling that is being used as a composite tooth colored filling material. All these cements are tested and tried in the labs then only used on the patients.
